THE STORY OF
THE MORTGAGE AIDE
I was in my early 20’s when both of my parents passed away. My siblings and I inherited the home we grew up in—along with the mortgage. At some point, we decided to do a cash-out refinance, so I went to a local lender that was known to have unique loan programs with easy approvals. I filled out an application and waited for their call.
Not long after, we got the good news—we were approved! I still remember going to their office to sign the paperwork. For some reason, they had me wait outside, standing under the hot sun. Eventually, a woman came out with a clipboard stacked with papers, covered in what felt like a hundred sticky tabs. I don’t think she was even the loan officer, if I recall she may have been the office assistant. Either way, she casually flipped through the pages, pointing at spots for me to sign or initial. We barely exchanged any words.
So, I did what most people do—I signed where I was told. (Seriously, who actually reads all that legal jargon before signing?) I didn’t ask any questions—honestly, I didn’t even know what to ask. I just assumed they were the experts, so I followed their lead. The closing was just as easy: more papers, more signatures, and, in the end, the much-anticipated cash-out check.
At first, it felt like a win—like warm sunshine on a summer day. But the cold reality eventually set in. Without going into too many personal details, we found ourselves navigating the long-term rental world. Looking back, it became painfully clear that our lender had set us up for failure. Over the years, two different law firms reached out to us as part of a class-action lawsuit against our lender, but the damage had already been done.
I’ve since heard too many stories similar to mine, and that’s why I’m so passionate about educating aspiring homeowners. Understanding every part of your mortgage can make all the difference. My goal is to be a guide—someone who empowers people to make informed decisions, rather than just blindly signing where they’re told. That’s the mission and story behind our company name, The Mortgage Aide.
How competitive are your rates?
NEXA Mortgage is my broker, which means I have access to a wide variety of lenders and loan programs. Instead of offering just one set of rates like a bank, I get to shop around to find the most competitive rates available for your specific situation. The best way to see how I compare is to get a personalized quote!
What's the difference between NEXA Mortgage and The Mortgage Aide?
As an independent contractor under NEXA Mortgage, they act as a platform for my business, The Mortgage Aide.
Where are you located?
I am on the island of Kauai (Hawaii). That being said, all transactions are done online and virtually. In adherence to Federal regulations, non-branch locations (i.e. home office, Starbucks, etc) are prohibited as meeting locations to protect the sensitivity of the consumer’s private information.
